Hello to anyone who actually reads my blog posts! I’m lying in bed with that “Wiggle” song stuck in my head. I really should be getting to sleep but for some reason I am just beyond determined to write a blog post instead. I have a candle burning but I can barely even smell it because my nose is all kinds of stuffed up. Hopefully I’m not getting sick. Anyway, I’ve rambled for far too long. I wanted to give my two cents on the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. It’s been out for a few months now and I’ve procrastinated this post for nearly that long out of pure laziness. Oops, my bad.
I received a sample size Perversion mascara in my Ipsy bag, but the full size mascara retails for $22 so it’s on the pricey side though there are certainly more expensive options. You get 0.4 fl oz of product in the tube which is a blackish/gunmetal and purple metallic finish. The actual product is a deep dark black and the applicator has a bristle brush rather than a rubber one. As far as size goes I would say the brush is maybe just a pinch larger than what I consider to be a standard brush size.
Pulling directly from the mascara’s info section on the Urban Decay website these are the product claims:
~Bigger, badder, blacker lashes
~Sexy in one coat
~Purest, deepest, most intense black color imaginable
~Creamy, full-bodied texture that’s not too dry, not too wet
~Never brittle or clumpy
~Able to pile on coat after coat
~Stimulate lash growth, provide nourishment, protect
~Brush latches on to each lash to separate and define
~No need to wiggle or maneuver at angles
So, as I’ve been doing with my review posts lately here is my before photo. I have a thin line of liquid liner on my eyes but nothing else. Sorry for the brushy brows. I’ve been trying to get them good and thick to play with the shape a bit. Anyway, you can see my lashes are a medium length, they curl naturally, and they are a dark blonde much like the rest of my hair.
For the purposes of this blog post I took the following photos with just one coat of the mascara. Yeah. Wow. One coat of this mascara looks amazing. The lashes are slightly lengthen, volumized, super black, and not clumpy at all. Two coats gives the lashes a more volumized look, amping it up for evening wear. I definitely would not do more than two coats because it will turn into clumps city.
I definitely love the look this mascara gives to my lashes. I didn’t love it when I first began using it. When the formula was newer and wetter I found that it would flake off a bit during the day. As the product in the tube dried out a bit I no longer had this problem. That’s a bit confusing because it’s rather counterintuitive but that’s just how it worked out for me. I am really interested in getting a full-sized tube and seeing if the same thing happens.
Now, lets review the claims again:
~Bigger, badder, blacker lashes ✔ I’m not sure about “badder” but the other two apply.
~Ultra creamy ✔
~Sexy in one coat ✔
~Purest, deepest, most intense black color imaginable ✔ I mean that’s a bit dramatic but yes it is a dark black.
~Creamy, full-bodied texture that’s not too dry, not too wet ✘ This was very wet at first and that’s why I wasn’t crazy about it at first.
~Never brittle or clumpy ✔
~Able to pile on coat after coat ✘ Don’t try more than two coats.
~Stimulate lash growth, provide nourishment, protect ✘ Who the hell knows?
~Brush latches on to each lash to separate and define ✔
~No need to wiggle or maneuver at angles ✘ I felt the need to wiggle and maneuver. I think this is just going to depend on the shape of your eye.
Overall I am pleased with this mascara and I do want to purchase the full size. I think that the look it gives my lashes is gorgeous and definitely worth dealing with waiting for the formula to dry out a bit. For me the product does exactly what it claims to do – bigger blacker lashes. I really like it and fully intend to buy a new tube once I’ve used up some other mascaras.
