The Magic of Not Wearing Makeup

Got Almond Milk Selfie

You can find this freakin’ sweet shirt HERE.

Hey yall hey! Long time no talk. I have another post planned to talk about where I’ve been and why I’m back in the game now but today I wanted to talk about the restorative power of not wearing makeup. I know we are in the midst of a makeup empowerment movement, if it can be called that. And I am all for people doing what they damn well please with their face and body. Cake it on baby! But for me, I needed a break. Continue reading →

The More I Use, The Less I Move

I’ve been fairly silent on the topic of house hunting ever since our first contract fell through, but I can say now with a fair amount of certainty that we are officially moving in just over two weeks! Excited doesn’t even come close to explaining  how I’m feeling. Continue reading →

Proactiv Solution Review

Proactiv Solutions Review

Proactiv Solution may be the biggest name in skin care in the USA. You see their commercials on every channel,  ads in every magazine and yet somehow I’ve never tried it. I’m not sure why I had never looked in to it before but I was given a chance recently to try out the system so I agreed immediately. After extensive googling I’m really still not sure if Proactiv is cruelty free or not. If someone has a definitive answer to that please let me know becuase there is so much conflicting information on the internet. My next thought was to check out the ingredients lists which didn’t have seem to have anything terrible in them so I was excited to get started with the system. Also, I wanted to include that my skin in its current state is combination/normal.

The skin care system at its core consists of three products: the Renewing Cleanser, the Revitalizing Tone, and the Renewing lotions. The names are bit gimmicky with the alliteration but you get the point. The set also comes with an application guide that provides a brief snippet of information about each of the products.

Before getting started I had a few initial thoughts. I was nervous about using a physical exfoliant everyday, twice a day. I was unsure that the repairing lotion would be moturizing to use every night. Typically I would use something very moisturizing at night, usually a combination of oils, so the thin treatment lotion had me a bit hesitant. Other than that I was a little confuses as to why there were no suggestions in the application guide for what should be used as moisturizer in the day. You would think there would have been some sort of Proactiv brand day moisturizer suggested but there wasn’t. I took that to mean that I could use whatever I wanted so I did.

I’ve used these products for just over a month now. The first couple of weeks I used the Michael Todd Moisture Lite lotion for day time use and the Lancome Renergie Lift Multi-Action Sunscreen for sun protection. Once I finished those products up I moved to using the Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum and the Origins VitaZing for sun protection. I think the latter combination worked better in combination with the Proactiv products.

The Renewing Cleanser is a white cream cleanser with small exfoliating pieces contained within the cream formula. The small exfoliants feel slightly scratchy but I haven’t noticed any irritation to my skin since I’ve been using it so I guess the exfoliants must be smooth in texture. As I mentioned above I was nervous about using a physical exfoliater twice a day, but my skin now has a very smooth texture and is quite soft to touch. I would definitely consider repurchasing this product. I felt it did keep my skin clean and smooth, but not stripped. The only thing about the cleanser that confuses me a bit is that it contains benzoyl peroxide, which is an ingredient for treating acne. It just seems pointless to include this treatment ingredient in the cleanser since the cleanser is only in contact with the skin for minutes before it’s washed away.

The Revatalizing Toner, well, is just a toner. I find that most toners do the same thing as long as they don’t contain harmful ingrediants. I would definitely use this toner again if I some how ended up with another bottle, but don’t expect miracles from it.

The last part of the kit to discuss is the Repairing Lotion, which in my opinion is the most important  element of this trio. The lotion contains benzoyl peroxide for the treatment of acne. According to the application guide the benzoyl peroxide “penetrates the pore” to combat the acne. While I didn’t have a ton of acne to begin with this lotion has certainly clearly up an issue area between my eyebrows. That area of my face is prone to small black heads which have pretty much cleared up entirely. I’m incredibly pleased with the results I’ve achieved from this product and would certainly purchase it again.

As I mentioned above my skin type in combination/normal so I can’t say for sure how these products would work on other skin types. The people over at have made today’s post possible. They actually have a whole page dedicated to helping you figure out why Proactiv may not produce stellar results every time! Check them out. They are a treasure trove of skin care information.

Products I Need Cruelty-Free Dupes For

Products I Need Cruelty-Free Dupes For

Hey y’all hey! I’ve gone through my collection and piled together my all time favorite products that happen to not be cruelty-free. I’m considering this my dupes to do list. I can always live without these things – makeup, after all, is not a necessity – but I would be really happy if I could find dupes for these items in cruelty-free lines.

Origins Vitazing. Vitazing is a great tinted moisturizer. It contains sun protection and the smallest amount of tint just to lightly even out the complexion. I currently have a Paula’s Choice tinted facial sunscreen which I don’t love. I bought the one for oily skin (I’m normal to oily) and it is was too drying for me. I’m going to try the one for dry skin and see if that works better for me.

Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Concealer. This is truly the best concealer I’ve ever used and the one item I am sad to say goodbye to forever. The fair shade is a perfect match for me, there is great coverage and its so easy to apply. I have a lot of trouble finding a concealer I like so I’m sure once this tube finishes I’ll be going a bit concealer crazy looking for something comparable.

MAC Aphrodite’s Shell Bronzer. I have other bronzers that I can use but this one just makes life easy. It’s lightly pigmented and is the perfect color for my pale skin. I have a good feeling there is a good dupe for this somewhere but I’m going to finish off all of my bronzers before I even start the search.

MAC Petals and Peacocks Lipstick. I’ve found a few dupes for this but none of them are cruelty free. It’s such a beautiful color and with so many companies having extensive lipstick ranges I am confident I will easily find a dupe for this.

L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara. I just started using this mascara and I’m blown away. This stuff is great and the brush is so compatible to my eye shape. Much like lipsticks, there are so many mascaras on the market so I’m sure I can find a dupe after I finish the few other mascaras I have left in my stash.

If yall have any dupe suggestions for these products please let me know!

Why I Haven’t Been Talking About Makeup

Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well. I haven’t sat down and wrote out a full blog post in quite some time since I’ve been putting out so much content on YouTube so this post is long overdue. I have to say I really miss typing out all of my thoughts to share with you guys. I’m going to make a real effort to begin re-incorporating more actual written blog content so that my blog isn’t just a catalog of videos.

Today I really wanted to talk to yall about why I haven’t been filming or writing about makeup much at all recently. If you keep up with the blog I’m sure you’ve read my recent post about moving towards cruelty free beauty and you’ve noticed I haven’t hauled any beauty products in forever. I’ve made several attempts at “makeup no buys” before but I’ve always failed. This time around my approach was to not restrict myself to a strict “no buy” but rather if I think I want to buy something I give it a few days to think about if I really want it or not. More often than not I realize I already have a similar product and don’t buy whatever it is I thought I wanted. Additionally I’ve been making an effort to use up everything I own before purchasing something similar. Thus I’ve had no need to buy anything. I don’t even need to really try anymore, I simply don’t think about makeup 24/7 any longer, which is great. It’s really curbed my expensive shopping habit, but it’s made me less excited to talk about makeup as well.

When you don’t have the newest, latest, greatest thing that everyone else is talking about you do feel left out at first. I felt like no one would be interested in anything I had to say since I couldn’t share what was current in the makeup world. More recently I’m coming to find that it’s ok to not own every lipstick under the sun. It doesn’t make what I have to say any less interesting or relevant. I’ve missed sharing my thoughts on makeup so I’m going to try to think outside of the box for posts that can still be interesting without buying new products every week. YouTube has a habit of really influencing people to buy everything under the sun and I certainly fell victim to the consumerism. That being said I don’t want to be wasteful so my focus with makeup is to stop spending and start appreciating what I have.

So what can you expect to see from me in the future? I will be the first to admit I get very obsessed with things, planner videos being my most recent love. My blog has been taken over by planning content and I’m not going to apologize for that because I’ve thoroughly enjoyed making planner videos. I’ve decided to each back into makeup content in conjunction with easing back into writing blog posts. Once I feel like I’m brainstorming solid, interesting makeup video ideas I’ll start filming a bit more as well.
